Capacitor Discharge Studs are designed to be welded to thin gauge sheet material using tip ignition according to thecapacitors discharge welding process.
Capacitor Discharge Studs are available in many different sizes, from a base diameter of a 2 mm stud up to 12 mm.Standard material for CD Studs are:
Low Carbon Copper Flashed Steel, Stainless Steel. Other grades, i.e. AISI 316 (A4), AISI 310 are available on request
The stud flange is designed according to EN ISO 13918.
Studs made of steel 4.8 are protected against corrosion by copper coating. (Thickness : 3 to 5 um)
The paint cearing thread causes a large part of paint to run down the stud shaft so that the metal nut can be easilypositioned during final assembly.
Paint Clearing Threaded Capacitor Discharge (CD) Studs are precision fasteners for capacitor discharge stud welding. Adopting tip ignition welding technology, they can be firmly welded to thin-gauge metal sheets with fast welding speed, low thermal deformation, no burn-through and stable quality, suitable for lightweight sheet metal assembly in industrial manufacturing.
This CD stud series features a base diameter range of 2 mm to 12 mm to fit various assembly designs. Standard materials include low-carbon copper-flashed steel and stainless steel. Custom grades such as AISI 316 (A4) and AISI 310 stainless steel are available on request for high corrosion and high-temperature resistance working conditions.
All stud flanges comply strictly with EN ISO 13918, delivering standardized dimensions, high fitting accuracy and universal interchangeability. Grade 4.8 steel studs are coated with 3–5 μm thick copper layers, which effectively isolate air and moisture, provide reliable anti-corrosion protection, and extend the service life of studs in conventional atmospheric environments.
The product’s highlight is the exclusive paint-clearing thread structure. The optimized thread profile scrapes and drains surface paint, coatings and oxides down the stud shaft during installation. It avoids assembly blockage from paint accumulation, eliminates manual cleaning procedures, allows quick alignment and smooth tightening of metal nuts, and effectively improves assembly efficiency and connection stability.
Capacitor discharge welding features low heat input, causing no thermal damage, deformation or discoloration to thin sheet workpieces, with a clean, efficient welding process requiring no auxiliary materials. Combined with the practical paint-clearing thread design, these studs offer excellent weldability and assembly performance, ideal for thin sheet connection in automotive, electrical equipment, home appliance and metal engineering industries.
